Our science

Feed the food dogs evolved to eat.

Food, not nutrients. An evolutionary food program, not a diet.

For millions of years, dogs thrived on the whole, raw food of their ancestors: meat, bone, organ and plants. Then processed food arrived, built to balance a list of known nutrients on a label. We take the other path. We feed the ancestral foods a dog evolved to eat, and the balance takes care of itself, between real food, the dog's own body, and the microbiome they share with the world around them. That is why we talk about food, not nutrients, and about an evolutionary food program, not a diet.

The evolutionary food model

Our meals follow the model dogs evolved on: raw meaty bones, offal, low-GI coloured vegetables, and whole-food extras like egg and ferments. Fed as the whole meal, or combined with raw meaty bones and other whole raw foods.

Raw freeze-dried, set beside the rest

Set against cooked, air-dried and kibble, freeze-dried raw stands apart. No cooking heat touches it, so the whole food stays intact and highly digestible. We lead on the food itself, and on how well a dog uses it, not on a retention percentage.

It is also easier to digest

In feeding trials, raw diets are highly digestible. Dogs absorb more of the protein, fat and energy from raw than from extruded kibble, which is cooked at high heat. Our freeze-dried raw is that same whole food, rehydrated.

Two fair questions about raw

Is it complete?

Not complete the way a label means it. It is biologically, ancestrally and evolutionarily appropriate: whole meat, bone, organ and plants, in the proportions dogs evolved to eat. Balance comes from real food, not a formula.

Is it safe to handle?

Every batch is lab-tested, NATA-accredited to ISO 17025. Freeze-dried and sealed, so it is clean and simple to handle.

The ancestral story, done honestly

Ancestral does not mean wolf. Dogs are not wolves. They evolved alongside us and adapted to digest starch far better than wolves, but that ability is a two-edged sword: they can eat starch, yet they thrive without it. Through history their diets varied by their place. Peasant and farm dogs lived on grain-heavy scraps, while the prized hunting hounds of the estates ate closest to the whole animal, meat, organ and bone. That is the diet the best-kept dogs thrived on, and where "Fed like royalty. Built like hounds." comes from, as metaphor, not a claim that every dog ate raw.
